The First Young Gun
Bobby Hillin Jr in many circles could be considered the first young gun when their really wasn’t none. he burst on the scene in 1982 at the ripe age of 17 years old. No really training was given and that maybe was a big mistake. Back when Hillin Jr broke in this was unheard of and veterans didn’t take to it very kindly. You had to pay your dues and they felt Hillin Jr didn’t and they didn’t like it. The result was Hillin Jr got very little help from anyone in the garage area. This young gun was solo for most of his career as help wasn’t coming from anyone.
Hillin Jr started 334 races with one win and 8 top fives and 43 top tens. Could he had done more? Of course, but the bottom line is when everyone is against you it’s tough sometimes. he came around in a time where he went against the grain and in Nascar that wasn’t the way to go. In the end though Bobby Hillin Jr learned a lot made a living and today has many friendships that he built through the years. you just have to be happy with the time you have and move on. Bobby Hillin Jr has.
