Randy Moss Starting Truck Team

Randy Moss and some investors is starting a Nascar Truck Series team that is scheduled to run a limited schedule their first year and the second year they will run the full season. This one should be very interesting. Has anyone noticed how more players from other sports are starting to own teams in Nascar.

As far as Randy Moss as a truck owner this could be a good thing for the sport. Moss should be able to bring in more fans to the sport and with ratings and attendance down at events this can only help that grow. Hopefully Moss will be able to stay awhile in the sport, but only time will tell.

Craftsman Leaving Truck Series After 2008

This really doesn’t come much of surprise to me as Sears will be pulling out as title sponsor in 2008 of the Craftsman Truck Series that they help start. This really shouldn’t come much of a shock to anyone. Nascar doesn’t really pomote this area of racing that much so it makes perfect sense for them to pull out.

Look recently at all the sponsors that have pulled away from Nascar and you will see their has to be a reason behind it. If companies are getting go mileage from it they don’t leave. This means their not and thus they are saying goodbye. It’s a shame that Nascar don’t get it and keep losing great sponsors.

Ted Musgrave Wins Truck Race At Texas

bnnm.jpg

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good and that’s what happen to Ted Musgrave last night. After Hornaday and Skinner crashed on lap 143 it but Musgrave in line for a chance to win. When Chad McCumbee spun his tires on the restart and Jack Sprague couldn’t keep from hitting him it gave the opening Musgrave needed and tooked the win under caution.

It ended Musgrave’s winless streak at 66 races which he was glad to break. Many times it’s not always the fastest  truck that win’s it’s the one with the most luck. Looks like Musgrave had a four leaf clover last night. Mike Skinner now takes over the points lead with just two races left. He leads Hornaday by 57 points.

Mike Skinner Regains Points Lead At Martinsville

Mike Skinner was able to survive the brawl at Martinsville to regain the points lead in the Craftsman Truck Series. With the tight confines of Martinsville you knew there would be plenty wrecks and there was. With seven laps to go the race was red-flagged after an accident that involved 9 trucks and sent fluids everywhere along with truck parts.

In the end though Skinner held off Jack Spraque to grab the win at the Kroger 200.  Skinner is now the points leader and is glad just to get out of the wreck filled race in one piece. That is how Martinsville can be and those who do survive are usually rewarded.

Dario Franchitti Will Make Nascar Debut At Martinsville

56.jpg

Dario Franchitti who is making the transition from Indy cars to the Nascar stock car racing circuit will make his Nascar debut at Martinsville in a Craftsman Truck Series race.  He will try and qualify the No. 41 Target Dodge Ram which is owned by Cunningham Motorsports.

Franchitti will find Martinsville a whole kind of different animal as he will see things their that he never could imagine. Getting bump all the time and no give or take for drivers on this very small track. Of course Franchitti isn’t one to back away from contact so it will be interesting to see how he handles it.

Travis Kvapil Grabs Fourth Truck Win This Season

Travis Kvapil was able to break away from a tight pack of trucks with four laps to go to grab his fourth win in the Craftsman Truck Series.  Jacques Villeneuve former Formula One Driver finished 21st in his Craftsman Truck debut.

Kvapil was able to pull away frpm Johnny Benson and Jon Wood to match both Mike Skinner and Ron Hornaday for the series lead in wins. The Truck series has some very good drivers and it’s a shame more time on the networks aren’t spent on this series.

Busch, Craftsman Series Take Second Seat

The Busch Series and the Craftsman Truck Series for the last few years have really taken a back seat to Nextel Cup racing. now I can understand the reasoning behind it but does it make good business sense. The Craftsman Truck Series started out with a bang, but you really never see much written or even talked about it anymore.

What Craftsman Truck Series drivers have you hear of. Do these names ring a bell:

  1.  Ron Hornaday
  2. Mike Skinner
  3. Todd Bodine
  4. Ted Musgrave
  5. Mike Bliss
  6. Johnny Benson

All of these drivers at one time had or drove Cup rides. The press for the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series just isn’t very good. The Busch Series is another whole story. Yes, Busch Series get more press than the trucks for one reason almost half of the cup regulars jump down to the Busch Series on a weekly basis. This hurts many Busch Series drivers as they never make the field. In my opinion something needs to be done about that.

Until they do getting quality drivers In Nextel Cup will get tougher. If you can race than how do you get better. Just makes sense.

Ron Hornaday Jr Domiantes Truck Series At Loudon

3.jpg

Ron Hornaday Jr looked the part as he drove away from everyone to keep his lead and set Mike Skinner a little further back from him. Hornaday Jr dominated the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series race at Loudon by leading 174 of the 200 laps in  the New Hampshire 200 on way to his 33rd career win and fourth victory this season.

Mike Skinner who wound up thir isn’t conceding the championship just yet to Hornaday Jr as Skinner has some tracks coming up that he is pretty good at himself. I guess we will have to wait and see how he does before we can say Hornaday will wear the crown this year.

Past Cup Regulars Find Success In Truck Series

Do the names Ron Hornaday Jr, Johnny Benson, Todd Bodine, Mike Skinner to name a few bring back some memories for nextel Cup fans. They should as these use to be guys on Sunday we use to cheer for. They have jumped over to the Craftsman Truck Series which doesn’t get the press it probably deserves. Every year it seems Nascar pushes the Truck Series further away from Busch and Nextel Cup racing. That’s a real shame as it has some very good racing.

With Cup guys for the most part throughout the Series you know that good racing will be the outcome. Hopefully in the near future Nascar will give the Craftsman Truck Series more of a push. personally I would love to see a chase format in all three series this would really bring excitement to the three racing series. I guess only time will tell if that happens though.
